The Groves Pecan Festival and Groves Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors would like to encourage every one of ALL AGES to come out and visit our Groves Pecan Festival 50th Anniversary which was started in 1969. What other important things happened in 1969 included The Beatles’ last public performance, on the roof of Apple Records, First Concorde test flight is conducted in France. Boeing 747 jumbo jet makes its debut, Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the epitome of the American muscle car, is introduced. The first man landed on the moon on the Apollo 11 mission by the United States, and Neil Armstrong and Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the Moon, and Woodstock attracted more than 350,000 rock-n-roll fans. The Groves Pecan Festival Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, October 19th, at Babe Zaharias Golf Course, 3500 Jimmy Johnson Blvd., Port Arthur, TX 77642. Registration should be made in advance. Groves Pecan Festival Art/Photo Contest The Groves Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Center would like to extend an invitation to those wishing to participate in the 2019 Groves Pecan Festival Art/Photo Contest. Starting on October 7, 2019, applications to enter this event can be obtained at the Groves Chamber of Commerce office located at 4399 Main Ave., Mon – Thursday, 9am – 4:30pm and Friday 9am – 12noon . Entries can be submitted for the contest on Tuesday – Thursday, Oct. 15 – 16 – 17, 2019. The Awards Reception will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Groves Public Library located at 5600 West Washington, Groves, TX 77619. This year’s 50th annual Festival runs from Thursday, October 24th through Sunday, October 27th. The Groves Pecan Festival Carnival opens in Lion’s Park, along with the craft and food booths, on Thursday and Friday at 5:00 p.m., 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. Additionally, there will be entertainment and events which will run throughout the festival. Lion’s Park is located at 6200 Jackson. There is no charge for admission. You can eat your way through the food area with ice cream, funnel cakes, pecan pie, fried desserts, curly fries, gumbo, hamburgers, barbecue, pork-a-bobs, boudain balls, nachos, pistolettes, breakfast food etc., then you can wash it down with freshly squeezed homemade lemonade. Also, the craft area should have something for everyone. This year’s Platinum Sponsor is once again TOTAL Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc.

Carnival rides during the festival begin at 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24th, 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25th, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26th, and 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27th ending the festival.
Carnival Ride Arm Bands will be available on Thursday, October 24th for the price of $25.00 and for Friday, October 25th for the price of $25.00. Arm Bands will also be available for Saturday, October 26th. The price will be $25.00 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and $25.00 from 5:00 p.m. to close, or you may purchase an ALL-DAY Arm Band for $35.00. On Sunday, October 27th, Arm Bands will be available for $25.00 from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. This will allow an Arm Band holder to ride on the day of purchase. Arm Bands will be on sale in the carnival area at the ticket booth in Lion’s Park. Arm Band Sponsors are: Thursday night – MARKET BASKET and Saturday night – Gulf Credit Union.
2019 Groves Pecan Festival Treasure Hunt Starting on Monday, October 21st, Clues will appear on the “Groves Pecan Festival” Facebook page 8:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Bonus clues for the dailies will be 7:00 p.m. the following day. Bonus clue for the Grand Prize, if needed, will be Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
Hunters can find daily Golden Pecans worth $50 (Monday-Thursday) and there will be a grand prize of $400. The daily clues WILL NOT appear in The Port Arthur News any longer. This year’s sponsor will once again be Levingston Funeral Home.
The treasure is hidden in the city limits of Groves and destruction of property is not needed to find it. PLEASE NOTE: The treasure IS NOT located in the Horseshoe Pit in Lion’s Park or in CELEBRATION PARK located at the corner of Lincoln Ave. and Coolidge. All treasures are on property accessible to the public.
If you think you have found the Golden Pecan and/or the Grand Prize, post on Facebook page the confirmation code so the find can be confirmed. Then you will need to take it to Groves Chamber office at 4399 Main Ave. through Thursday, October 24th or to the Chamber of Commerce booth on the festival grounds Friday – Sunday, October 25th – 27th, to receive your prize. All efforts will be made to notify treasure hunters, as soon as possible, through FACEBOOK, that a treasure has been found. ALL Golden Pecans and/or the Grand Prize which have NOT been turned into the Groves Chamber of Commerce before 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 27th WILL BE DECLARED NULL AND VOID.

Groves Pecan Festival WASHER BOARD TOURNAMENT: Saturday, October 26th in Lion’s Park, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The contest will consist of up to 18 teams and will be a Double Elimination Tournament. More details to follow……….
The Cooking with Pecans Contest, sponsored by Oak Grove Nursing Home and Julian Salter Insurance Company will be held on Saturday, October 26th. Entries will be accepted at the Center Tent on the festival grounds from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Judging begins at 4:30 p.m. with winners being announced at the festival stage area at 7:00 p.m. Entry forms will be available at the Chamber booth on the festival grounds until noon on Saturday, October 26th.
The Groves Pecan Festival Pet Show, sponsored by Wilcox Veterinary Clinic and Snooper’s Paradise, will be Sunday, October 27th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lee Rodgers Pavilion located in Lion’s Park. Pet Show registration begins at 12 noon. The Chairperson is Carol Sigona.
The Horseshoe Tournament – will be held in Lion’s Park, located at 6200 Jackson, on Sunday, October 27th. Entry fees will be $30 for the Doubles Horseshoe Tournament and $5 for Singles.
